More details
I didn't do very well in school and left at the age of 14 years to become an apprentice
in a hardwarestore. After 4 years I finished the education (which never came in use) in 1962 and became an accountant. I took evening courses untill I in 1977 started as a dental student in Copenhagen. Economy was reasonable as I work parttime as a taxidriver. After graduating I worked as a dentist in private pratice as well as in different hospitals, including 1 year in Norway. In 1974 I became a medical student at the university in Odense (Funen), while working as an oral surgeon at the university hospital. Later on I moved to Aarhus, where I graduated as an MD in 1979. Eventually I became a specialist in maxillofacial surgery and later in ENT-surgery. Gradually my main interest changed and I became associated professor in oral pathology and oral medicine. Since the early 1980's my main research area was human papillomvirus (HPV). Early in 2003 I gave up the fighting for economical support for my research, and joined a private ENT-surgery practice in Herning. After almost 5 years in Herning I finally retired. I had then been working from my 14th to (almost) my 64th year - 50 years.
